Why You Need Drapery Wands
Drapery Wands (also known as Curtain Batons) improve the functionality of your custom drapes. Wands allow you to quickly and easily open and close your drapes without pulling on or touching the the drapes themselves, protecting delicate fabrics and keeping your drapes clean. Wands are highly recommended for all custom drapes, especially heavy drapes or drapes that are long in length.
Determining the Number of Wands Needed
You’ll need two drapery wands for each pair of drapes, and you’ll need one drapery wand for each one-way draw drapery panel, such as as sliding glass door drapery panel.
Selecting a Wand Length
Determining a comfortable wand length is easy. Begin by measuring the height your drapery rod is mounted. Next, consider your own height. You’ll want the bottom of the wand to come down no higher than about chest height, so subtract that distance (usually about 50 inches or so) from the height of your drapery rod.
For example, if your drapes are mounted at 108 inches, and you subtract about 50 inches to account for your own height, you can estimate that you’ll need a wand that measures about 58 inches. So you can determine that your wand length should be 5 feet.
How to Install a Drapery Wand
Our wands simply clip onto a ring or onto an eyelet on a zip rod. We usually recommend that you clip the wand one ring or eyelet back from the ring or eyelet closet to the center edge of the drapery panel. In this way the wand hangs hidden just behind the panel.
